How not to land puffy

The arrival routine, and why the last hour of the flight matters more than the first twenty-three.

Cabin air sits at around ten to twenty percent humidity. Your lounge room is around forty. That difference is why you land with dry, tight skin and a face that looks like it has been holding water in all the wrong places.

Why you puff

Low humidity, low cabin pressure and sitting still for hours all slow your circulation down. Fluid pools where you do not want it, mostly your face and your ankles. It is not a skin problem, it is a movement and hydration problem that shows up on your skin.

The last-hour routine

  • Water, properly, from two hours out. Not one gulp before landing.
  • Wipe, then moisturise. Reapplying to a dirty face just seals the flight in.
  • Gua sha, cold, always downward along the jaw and neck. Ninety seconds a side is plenty.
  • Stand up and walk once more before descent, even if you feel stupid doing it.

Why stainless, not stone

Jade and rose quartz chip in transit and crack if you drop them on a tray table. Stainless survives the trip and holds cold longer, which is the entire point of the tool.
