Do compression socks actually do anything?

Short answer yes. Longer answer, here is what they do and what they don't.

Compression socks are the single least fashionable thing in any of our kits and the one I would keep if I could only keep one.

What they do

Graduated compression is tighter at the ankle and looser up the calf, which helps push blood back up rather than letting it pool while you sit still for hours. The practical result is less swelling and legs that feel like legs when you stand up.

What they don't do

They are not a medical device and they are not a substitute for advice if you have a circulation condition or you are pregnant. If any of that applies to you, ask an actual doctor before a travel brand.

How to wear them

  • Put them on before you board, not once your feet have already swollen.
  • They should feel snug, not painful. Painful means wrong size.
  • Take them off once you land and move around.
